While browsing through social networks I came across the profile of Florencia Macri, a person little known to some and very well known to others. Daughter of the late businessman Franco Macri, and sister of Mauricio Macri, former president of Argentina, she is a member of one of the most important families in the continent. Undoubtedly, a movie could be made about her life.
Her passion for art and photography is well known. Precisely, in my search for images on social networks that inspire me for some reason, I came across her profile, where she publishes part of her social activity, but more importantly, her photos.
When I came across the material posted on his IG, I automatically thought of the Provoke Movement, from Japan. Their punk aesthetic is the main reason I connected the two elements. On her profile are photos of all kinds: many refer to her project Come One, her genderless clothing line. But there are also photos featuring artists, models, and friends and also images where she herself is portrayed, among many others.
As explained on its website, Come on is a proposal “for those thirsty for a fashion experience different from the norm, for those looking for the classic style of a well-made outfit while maintaining a playful spirit, for those committed to responsible production and consumption”.
It was founded in 2019 in Miami, “inspired by punk culture and surrealism, it is a timeless clothing brand, without gender or age.” At that time, Florencia Macri, as creative director, and Pia Barberis, as designer, joined forces to create a conscious and genderless brand.
Their first Atelier was in the industrial area of Little River where they created designs, and patterns and made genderless collections with seamstresses and tailors who work with high quality control and currently produce their products in Peru.
In their collections you can find vintage velvets, butter silks, classic tartans, twills, and organic cotton. Their designs “are classic and challenging, and apply a modern twist to the traditions of traditional tailoring”.
And her vision “is to erase the rules that determine why, how, and where each piece should be worn.”
His photos
What I like most about Florencia’s proposal is that her work goes between the aesthetic and the emotional: there is the beautiful and the grotesque, the convention and the transgression, the sensual and the bucolic, the chic and the marginal, the movement and the static. It represents, in a way, a worldview about the unisex and the androgynous, punk as counterculture, as a mark of a nonconformity with the more traditional conventions of fashion and society in general.

Her photos, moreover, are loaded with an emotionality and a conceptualism that reflects a certain alienation, a certain dystopian reality, as happens in the work of Takanashi Yutaka, one of the most prominent referents of Provoke. There is a question between reality and reverie, noise and silence, which also appears in his proposal, based on full colors and the use of natural light, which creates unique environments.
Likewise, it can be glimpsed in his work that many of his photographs are taken in closed places, rooms, bedrooms. In those cases, his aesthetic becomes denser; it reminded me of that found in films such as “Blue Velvet” by David Lynch, because of the somber, the raw, the revelation of the intimate, the private.
“Are, bure, bokeh.”
As photographer and writer Iizawa Kôtarô explains, the members of Provoke declared that they would not accept the received framework of meaning and thought (what they called “the world of pseudo-certainty”), and with their “are, bure, bokeh” (“rough, blurred, out-of-focus”) style and their fragmented images completely demolished the established aesthetics and grammar of photography. Many of these elements are present in Florencia’s photography, marked by its disconcerting angles, high contrast and “loose” framing.
But, in addition, in her photos there is calm, there is reflection, and there is also fun. They are a look at life, love, pleasure, a way of synthesizing many elements, a way of portraying moments and experiences. I recommend her IG profile to see some good fashion and many interesting aesthetic proposals.
